You’ve created a product you’re proud of so now it’s time to give it a label and make it is as great as your product! Creating custom labels should be attractive, memorable, easy to read, and professional-looking. This is not the time for shortcuts!

IMPORTANT STEPS TOWARD PERFECT CUSTOM LABELS

A label includes important information about your product along with your company name and logo. It’s important that the information is easy to read and the label as a whole isn’t too busy. We know you’re proud of your product and want to tell customers all about it, but don’t turn your label into information overload. Follow these tips below and you’ll end up with a label you and your customers will love!

1. NAME THAT PRODUCT!

Every product needs a name that’s either catchy or descriptive. Hopefully, yours is both!

2. GIVE YOUR COMPANY A PERSONALITY

You can do that with a company name and logo that expresses the ‘feel’ of your company. Something like a yeti and mountains, for instance…

3. CAPTURE YOUR BUYER’S ATTENTION

Graphic imagery and pops of color are simple ways to draw buyers’ attention. A readable yet unique font should reflect the qualities of your product. Don’t let your colors clash with (or blend into!) the colors of either your product or its packaging. This makes it harder to read, and less likely for people to choose your product from others on the shelf. You can use sites like Canva to create beautiful designs that are also appealing to customers. They have their own unique label design tool, making it that much easier to create stunning labels!

4. INCLUDE ONLY WHAT COUNTS

Include the essentials. For example, include things like nutrition information, a barcode, etc. It’s a good idea to lay out the essentials first so you know how much room you have left for other important information like a product description. If you are in an industry that requires compliance, check out this blog on the basics of what you need for your label.

5. LABEL SHAPE & SIZE MATTER!

Remember Goldilocks? If a label is too small it’s hard to read. Too big and you risk it not fitting the package nicely. Just like Goldilocks, you want a label that fits “just right”. An interesting shape is not only more noticeable on the shelf, but it might also let you squeeze in a little more information than a square or rectangle label will. Don’t be afraid to be creative with your label!

6. SO DOES THE FINISH

If you’ve created the world’s best furniture polish, you might want a glossy label that reflects that shine. Or maybe you want a matte label to imitate the look of that poor, unpolished furniture that really needs your product. It’s your choice but make it a purposeful one when designing your custom product label!

7. CONSIDER THE APPLICATION

The size and shape of your label and product will determine whether rolls or flat sheets of labels will work better. Fortunately, we offer both!
